Reggae Music: Reggae in Australia
Reggae music originally formed in Jamaica but spread out throughout the world. Reggae in Australia surfaced in the late 1960s and in the 1970s. Australia had a very small Jamaica community but the Reggae had a profound influence in the country of Australia. Many artists of Australia have embraced the cultural influence of Reggae and added those tones to their music.

In 2006 a band called Astronomy Class released a new album called Exit Strategy combined Reggae and hip hop and became very popular. A famous Reggae song from Australia is No Dog War and it was used by the Sony Corporation. This song was used for Sonys Wag the Dog campaign and with this campaign the song saw increased popularity all over the world.
In Australia there are several different festivals that honor the world of Reggae. The yearly Reggae festival is called ReggaeTown. It is held in Far North Queensland in Australia. Another festival is called Fremantle. There is also a festival called Raggamuffin Music Festival that tours both Australia and New Zealand. There are several different radio programs that once played Reggae music. These include Jamdown Vershun, Splashdown, The Pounding System, and Chant Down Babylon. There are still some radio stations that play Reggae today in its many different forms.
