Rocksteady is another early form of music called reggae music. This type of music was popular around 1966. This music was raised up in Jamaica and differs from that of Ska due to the fact of it having a much slower tempo. Rocksteady music has a typically heavier bass beat and is much slower and more relaxed. Some of the typical instruments used in Rocksteady music is, drums, brass, organ, guitar, and melodica.

Rocksteady came around from teenagers in Jamaica where going into the ghettos of Kingston. These typically troubled teens became known as the Rude Boys and from there they occupied their time by making the Rocksteady music. Many songs that were sang and wrote during this time included stories about the Rude Boys life. Many of these Rocksteady songs had love and romantic themes in them as well. Rocksteady was also used as dance music. Even with the popularity of this music it is very hard to find the original copy to songs as certain beats changed with the progression of reggae music.

There are many Rocksteady artists. Some of these artists are, Alton Ellis, Derrick Morgan, Ron Shirley, The Jamaicans, and the Silvertones. If you are interested in Rocksteady music, you can do a search online for this type of music. You can also find albums with this type of music on it as well. Some newer Reggae bands have done covers of some of the more famous Rocksteady songs. You can find these by doing a search online. Rocksteady music was helpful in the role of progressing reggae music even further. Some of the same tones used today and some of the same lyrics are used in some of the Reggae songs played today. You can find many radio stations that play Reggae and some of these stations flashback to earlier Reggae including that of Rocksteady.
