Reggaeton is a form of Reggae that came from a mix of Jamaican reggae and Spanish reggae. The first form of Reggaeton was founded in or around 1970. Some of the typical instruments that are used are dem bow, guitar, drums, and bass. Reggaeton gained popularity in Puerto Rico with increasing beats and lyrics added to the music. It gained even more popularity in the United States since 2004. It has also gained increased popularity around the world.

Reggaeton does not come without controversy. Many people disapprove of Reggaeton due to the violent nature of the lyrics. Others do not approve of the exploitation of women in some of the songs and videos. Many do not approve of the sexual nature of the song lyrics as well. A national controversy in Puerto Rico is that of the dance called Perreo which is a dance that is performed with Reggaeton. The dance itself is performed as a type of grinding or sexual simulation. A senator in Puerto Rico tried to have Reggaeton and the Perreo dance removed from the airwaves and tried to regulate the music coming into Puerto Rico. She has not been successful in this attempt and both Reggaeton and the Perreo dance are still widely popular today.

There are many different singers in the world of Reggaeton. Even some singers that are popular for their music have crossed over to Reggaeton. Some of the many different artists include, Shakira, Vico C., Ricky Martin, Daddy Yankee, Alexis & Fido, Nina Sky, Nicky Jam, Zion, and Tito El Bambino. If you are interested in Reggaeton music you can find a lot of it on the airwaves today. Satellite radio often has many music stations that are dedicated to the music of Reggaeton. You can also do a search online for different artists and their CDs. If you are unsure whether or not you would like Reggaeton, you can find samples online to listen too. Many people enjoy the sounds of Reggaeton and have helped climb the world of music.
