Reggae Music: Prince Buster
Prince Buster is a musician from Kingston Jamaica. He was considered by many to be a very important leader in the world of Reggae music. He started performing music in 1956, first performing in many different nightclubs. His popularity increased with the creation of the sound system. A sound system helped him perform his music in a much better way and helped to increase his popularity.
In the year 1963 Prince Buster wrote and produced many songs for a band called Blue Beat. He became so popular that he often toured in London and many other European countries. The only country that he did not tour was the Netherlands. He was not widely known in America but he had a very successful tour in 1967. He had two hit singles in the United Kingdom which were Al Capone and Whine and Grine. Prince Buster is also a big fan of business. He owned a record shop which is still owned by family and he also has a jukebox company. He later started his own record label that is used today to reissue his music.
In the later 1960s Prince Buster stepped out of the Jamaican music spotlight due to decreasing popularity of his forms of Reggae. In 1970s his financial troubles became very apparent. Eventually in 1979 Ska was experiencing a revival in the UK. There were several bands that helped people to remember Prince Busters music. This great musician now lives in Miami, Florida. He has made several performances over the years. He was due to make a live appearance in London in 2009 but it was announced by email to the ticket holders that he would not be there.
