Bob Marley, probably the most associated name with Reggae music. Bob Marley played an iconic role in Reggae music in his short life. Many people around the world were fans of Bob Marley and still are today. Bob Marley came into music around 1964 with the Wailers. The Wailers along with Bob Marley had many famous songs including I Shot the Sheriff and many other famous songs. He was so very popular that his album Legend which was released after his death, is the top selling Reggae album ever. It even went platinum in the United States.

In 1976 Bob Marley was to put on a free concert called Free Jamaica that was organized by the Prime Minister of Jamaica. This concert was to help ease tensions between political parties. However before this concert, unknown assailants attacked Marley in his home injuring his wife and manager as well as his self. Everyone was assured that the concert would not be held but two days later Marley did the concert. At the end of the same year Marley went into self exile in England while making several more albums.

In 1981 we lost the Reggae star to cancer. He had been diagnosed with melanoma in 1977 and had lost his battle with the cancer. He was on his way back from Germany to go home to Jamaica to die. However he took a turn for the worst and the plane landed in Miami where he later died at a hospital. In 1994 Bob Marley was honored in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2001 he was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. There are many films that have honored the great Reggae artist. One is due to be released later this year.
