Reggae Music: UB40
UB40 is a British band that performs Reggae music. The band has received international success with other 70 million records sold. UB40 has over 50 singles that have topped the United Kingdoms singles chart. The band was created in the 1978 by college kids that had known each other throughout the years. Many people wonder how the band got their name. The term UB is the abbreviation for unemployment benefits. The term UB40 was for the form in the UK that was unemployment benefit, form 40. Before the band ever played any instruments they went around promoting the band. Placing signs and telling people all about their band they helped to spread the word of their band.
The first album U40 released was called Signing Off. This album was so popular that it spent 71 weeks on the UK music charts. This album is now Platinum. Some of UB40s early music talked about racism and many political issues much like all Reggae. They have been so popular that they have headlined at the famous Reggae festival Reggae Sunsplash.
UB40 has had many popular songs. Some of these great songs are Red, Red Wine, Food for Thought, and the Stars are Blind. The most successful song that UB40 has had is the cover of the Elvis song, I Cant Help Falling In Love With You. This song is featured on the movie Sliver with Sharon Stone.
