Rita Marley also known by some as Nana Marley is the wife of the iconic Bob Marley. She is well known throughout Jamaica and throughout the world. She has six children, three of which were Bob Marleys children, the others are from a previous marriage. Bob Marley also adopted two of Rita Marleys children. When her and Bob met she became one of his back up singers first known as the Soulettes and the later as the I threes.

After Bob Marleys death Rita Marley released several albums that gained some popularity in the United Kingdom. Some of her discography includes, Pied Piper, Rita Marley, Who Feels It Knows It, Gifted Fourteen Carnation, Sunshine after Rain, Sings Bob Marley and Friends, and Good Girls Cult. Many of her albums are available today for purchase and can be found quite easily online and in many different music stores.

In 1986 Rita Marley converted the home of Bob Marley into the Bob Marley Museum. She has created the Rita Marley foundation which helps many people in under developed countries. She has also adopted 35 children and Ethiopia as well as helping many others have a better life. Rita Marley has also been in the center of a controversy. In 2005 she wanted the body of Bob Marley exhumed and moved to Ethiopia, what she said was his spiritual resting place. She is quoted as saying the Bob Marleys life was about Africa not Jamaica. This made many people angry and upset. Many people thought that Bob Marley should stay where he was originally buried at and not to disturb the body. There still has not been a decision as to move his body. Rita Marley as his wife has expressed much love for her husband and her music. Regardless of any controversies her impact on the Reggae world has been great.
